The piranha go wild in the large aquarium as a chunk of dripping meat is tossed in.
Jasper audibly gulps as he, his wife Beatrice, and her mother hover precariously above a large, bloody aquarium.
“Congratulations, Beatrice! You have won The Deliverance!” A spotlight now shines on Jasper and her mother. “You can now pick one of your two opponents to leave the game in one piece. Choose carefully!”
Beatrice quickly points and says, “My mother!” The light flashes, and her mother abruptly vanishes.
The hovering platforms adjust, leaving Beatrice and Jasper directly across from each other.
Jasper’s fists clench around the bars of his platform as he glares daggers at the platform where his mother-in-law was. She belittled everything about him, from his part-time job as a barista to his grades in law school. Nothing was good enough for her daughter. This betrayal is the last straw for an already straining relationship. This game wasn’t designed to survive, just endure.
“I had to, Jasper!” Beatrice yelled from across the way. “My baby brother has nobody, you know that!”
Jasper sighed, the truth obvious. Beatrice’s paralyzed brother has a lot of expenses. As college students, they couldn’t manage the care without her mother.
Jasper gazes into his wife’s beautiful blue eyes. He knows his fate is inevitable and resigns himself to his end.
The large disembodied head of the gameshow host appears between Jasper and Beatrice, “Ladies and gentlemen! We have now reached the Perilous Plunge! One of our contestants is about to take a dip!” he exclaims with glee.
Lights start circling the room, illuminating the swarm of voracious piranha below. “I will read a question, and the person who buzzes in quickest will have a chance to answer the question.
While Jasper watches, the murky water becomes blood-tinged as a gameshow employee pours in a bucket of blood and incites the piranha to new heights of fervor.
“If the contestant gets the answer right, the other contestant will plummet into our aquarium of death and dismemberment. Get ready, everyone!”
The buttons before Beatrice and Jasper are now displayed on a large screen behind the disembodied head.
“What are the…” begins the host.
Jasper slams his hand down onto the button.
“Oh, that’s rotten luck. Since you hit your button before I finished the question, that is the question you have to answer. Good luck, you’re going to need it.”
Jasper locks eyes with Beatrice and says, “I love you, Bea. Live well, for me.” The platform dissolves, and he plummets to the water below.
“Noooo!” Beatrice shrieks while sinking to her knees, sobbing.
“Congratulations, Bea! You have won Annihilation Earth!!” The sound of a click resonates throughout the studio.
“Oops…” The game show host’s slight chuckle resonates through the studio.
The platform below Beatrice vanishes, and the sound of her scream resonates through the speakers throughout the galaxy as Beatrice plummets to her death.
“Sorry, Bea, my hand slipped.” The host chuckles and continues, “Next up, Annihilation Mars!!”
